My name is Sherly McLoughlin, and I am a positive psychology enthusiast and practitioner.
I spent 22 years teaching students who had just embarked on their tertiary study path. During that time, I came across a number of troubled ones with whom I could empathise. Some were big goal setter, but low achievers and others were lost and lacked motivation or were blind sighted by their lack of self-esteem.
At the same time, I worked alongside teachers who felt they were being overworked, under-paid, and psychologically exhausted.
You see, I was able to empathise with both students and teachers whose thoughts and emotions had them spiralling downwards, so much that they had lost sight of life satisfaction and their own wellbeing. I knew what it was like on both sides of the fence because I had experienced them myself.
And that’s what has inspired the next leg of my life’s journey.
After a master’s degree in Education and multiple certifications in the field of pedagogy up my sleeve, I discovered Positive Psychology. And only then did I realise that I had been gifted with strengths and powers to aim high and achieve my goals without losing hope when adversities struck.
Had I known this before, my journey to success, whether academic or not, would have been much easier and much more pleasant. That is the power of Positive Psychology!
It is a journey into self-awareness as a tool to be your authentic you, to build resilience in face of adversities, to cultivate positive emotions that can broaden your scope of thinking, and to give you the motivation you need to achieve your goals, all by simply realising your strengths and awakening the power within.
This is a journey worth taking.
